Paisley Fairtrade Partnership came into being following the achievement of Fairtrade Town Status for Paisley in August 2003. Paisley Fairtade Partnership is partnership between the different sections of the community of Paisley, representing local businesses, local council, Churches, Trade Unions, Health and Social Care sectors, Education and Higher Education, Rainbow Turtle shop for justice and other community groups, with the purpose of monitoring and promoting Paisley's commitment to Fairtrade and the principles of Fairtrade. Paisley Fairtrade Partnership monitors the availability of Fairtrade products in local businesses, community and work places. It seeks to promote, inform and raise awareness of the principles of Fairtrade in the local community. In this way Paisley Fairtrade Partnership seeks to ensure that the criteria laid down by the Fairtrade Foundation for the award of Fairtrade Town is satisfied, and continues to be improved upon. In this way it ensures the full commitment and contribution of the local community of Paisley to Trade Justice and to ensuring a fair system of international trade that allows producers in the Developing World to help themselves to a better future with dignity and self-respect.
